Wow, yesterday’s post sure brought out a lot of comments and opinions! And I am positively grateful that we have this network of quilter-stranger-friends to bounce things off of. That grapevine of information can open up worlds of understanding that many of us had never considered before. Thankfully someone read on the blog about the fabric with the characters, and went searching for more answers

Thinking Twice! ((No, Three Times!))
Posted on 15:28 by Unknown
If you read the last post, you saw what I was planning on using for the Quilts for Japan effort. I chose THIS backing fabric for the Scrappy Bargello…this has been in my stash for ages, I had some of this when it was originally out ((in the 80s?!?)) And then in the past year, a gift box included MORE of this in the same dye lot, so I had enough to piece for this backing….I just loved this sweet
Quilt Tops Gone MIA!!---
Posted on 06:23 by Unknown
Remember me posting about the quilt top I was going to quilt to send off to the “Quilts For Japan” drive? I’m sure I’m not the ONLY Quilter this happens to, but….I could see that top so clearly in my mind, I thought I knew right where it was, and I looked and looked and looked and I can’t find it! WHERE could it go? I know it hasn’t left the basement. I KNOW I haven’t used it for another donation

Waking Up on Spin!
Posted on 05:51 by Unknown
I woke this morning to the feeling of the house a shakin’, rattlin, and rollin’ ---- The washing machine was on spin cycle! Which means --- Someone OTHER than me was doing laundry! ***HUGE SMILE*** I found this video while searching for an out of control machine pic to post here! This was NOT what I was looking for, but you know, I like the music and it's got me moving this morning! LOL!!!By the

Another Free Kindle Book!
Posted on 13:53 by Unknown
Don’t you just love these? I mean, even if it turns out to be a book you don’t like…just delete it. It was free! I was always leary of buying a book I wasn’t sure I would like. And I love to discover new authors, so sometimes you just have to go by the title, the description and hope for the best! This one looks lighthearted and fun ((As much as lighthearted can be for a murder mystery?!?)) But
Those “Bonus” Triangles!
Posted on 05:16 by Unknown
Click HERE for printer-friendly .pdf version! As a Vagabond Traveling Itinerant Quilter….I have come to learn that there are “two camps” to the idea of “Bonus Triangles!” Either people hate them, can’t be bothered to spend the time to find a way to use them….or they LOVE THEM so much they just can’t let them go! I know I am in the latter camp….but it took many years of dealing with odd sizes to

Show & Tell Sunday!
Posted on 08:13 by Unknown
We haven’t done this in a while….and there have been some beautiful quilts showing up in my inbox over the past couple of weeks! Wouldn’t you like to see them? But first, the TELL! Sherrie wrote me about a news article I was quoted in! Hey Bonnie, I just wanted to share with you a link to an article in The Commercial Appeal about our guild going to your trunk show. I am the one that told you

It’s just a DAY TRIP!
Posted on 18:19 by Unknown
I promise! I’m really close to home, so it’s almost like BEING home…only….I get to be in Mt Airy NC for the day, giving a Sister’s Choice Workshop to the Surry Quilt Guild! And that’s just fine with me…I’ve been home “almost” a week, and a day trip means I’ll be back home by dinner time like “normal” folks! Did you Know that Mt Airy is the birthplace of Andy Griffith? I’m packing just a few
Where Everybody Knows Your Name ---

Hi! I’ve spent the morning getting back into a routine I’ve let some-what-slide over the winter months---I went to the GYM! It wasn’t anything I let intentionally slide, winter and travel and holidays just kind of got in the way, and though I kept up with workouts in hotel fitness rooms, power walking outdoors when I can, going to my actual HOME-GYM just kind of took a back seat to everything

A Day In Raleigh!
Posted on 05:14 by Unknown
Lisa and I had a fun trip over to Raleigh yesterday! Our main objective? To check out the quilts in the museum archives…she had selected 10 that she wanted to inspect, and inspect we did..down in the tombs, white gloves on, inspecting, measuring, oohing, ahhhing, pondering and wondering about the makers and their stories. I’ve driven THROUGH Raleigh before, or the outskirts of it, but never have

It wasn’t until this morning that I read all the responses….and feel a bit embarrassed about how unglued I sounded in yesterday’s post about Oscar dying. But I guess the truth was, I WAS unglued. We had fought over his health quite a bit in the past year, with the lung infection, and the tail abscess and whatever else was going on…. I don’t know what took him this time. But whatever it was,

Oscar and the Rainbow Bridge...
Posted on 05:22 by Unknown
I can't stop sobbing...I got a message from Jeff this morning that Oscar passed away during the night.I can't stop crying. I have to drive 8 hours home. I wish I had been there, I should have been there..I've been gone too much.I knew eventually his 9 lives would run out ---- but he was doing so much better...He was the best cat, and will be sorely missed. And the sad part is, I know I'll never

A Heart for Japan ---
Posted on 17:03 by Unknown
This morning I woke to 4 email messages in my inbox, one after the other asking me to help spread the word about things we can do to help those in Japan who are still reeling from the earthquake, the tsunami, and the fear of nuclear disaster. I spent time in Japan in 1989 and I keep thinking of all of those memories…all of those people…and my mind just can’t fathom what they are going through. My

Living LARGE! ((Is a lesson we all could use!)) Have you heard this story? There was an article in People Magazine and in the Toronto Star. Violet and Allen Large, both in their late 70s, met each other in 1964 and fell in love. The Canadian couple has purchased two lottery tickets every week since 1984. ((That’s a LOT of years and a LOT of lottery tickets!)) Last year, Violet called the

Questions for Quiltville!
Posted on 15:36 by Unknown
You know, the internet is a funny thing. Every day there are emails from out of the blue…..asking me if I know the value of someone’s vintage machine, or if I sell parts for them ((No, I’m just a machine lover who has too many!)) Or if I know someone who will do a certain kind of quilt for someone else, or asking one of 100 other questions… Sometimes I feel like the Quilter version of “Dear Abby!

Antiques Thrill Me!
Posted on 15:36 by Unknown
We had a great day for the Cathedral Stars workshop in Franklin today .the gals were so great. After almost 2 weeks on the road, I have to admit the classes are starting to run together a bit for me…..but in some ways I think I am also learning to explain things better….I’m more patient if someone doesn’t understand, and I don’t take it so personally when I am asked things like “well, can’t I do

The Hours In Between!
Posted on 19:17 by Unknown
Hello from a rainy chilly cloudy Franklin NC! You know, the mountains in this side of the state are as beautiful when the weather is bad, as they are gorgeous when the weather is good! I guess they don’t call them “The Smokies” for nothing…but this morning I woke up to look outside to see the clouds definitely hanging low in the rain like smoke rings around the mountain tops. Incredible!

Bed Turning!
Posted on 19:21 by Unknown
After 6 days of teaching in Pigeon Forge, I finally got a chance to head to the other building for the show, visit the vendors mall, see the quilts, and catch the LAST bed turning on Saturday before heading out of town! I love antique quilts. They are my greatest source of inspiration, and I had a front row seat to view these beauties! I love the stories, and the more well worn and loved the

Yes!! Spring!!
Posted on 18:32 by Unknown
It’s about dang TIME! It’s about time that the rain stopped, the snow stopped, the cold temps stopped and the flowers and sunshine and warmth STARTED! Yesterday morning it was actually spitting snow when I went to class. This morning dawned chilly but clear…and by lunch time? Oh, sun, oh glorious long-awaited sun! I took a moment at lunch time to take a pic of the bradford pears in the parking

Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign!
Posted on 17:51 by Unknown
Do you ever wonder about the signs you see sometimes? Some of the signs seen around Quiltfest here in Pigeon Forge have been interesting to say the least….and we KNOW there is always an event or mis-hap that happens FIRST….to require the NEED for such a sign to be made in the first place! Take this one for instance: IRON on WALLS?!? Really?? It seems that in a previous year, someone didn’t

Seen Around Quiltfest!
Posted on 18:08 by Unknown
I absolutely LOVE wandering around Quilt-Events and seeing all that I can! In the lobby of the Convention Center where the classes are, is a gentleman who has been here for years and years…and he, of course, specializes in Featherweights! Just LOOK at these hot numbers! Wouldn’t you just love a red-hot-hot-rod Featherweight? How about a Purple one? Or a TEAL one?! Or how about my favorite of

A little bit of THIS!
Posted on 06:55 by Unknown
Doesn’t THIS make you smile? I know it does me…I got home from Germany and the trees that were still in “winter sleep” when I had left first for Texas, and then for Stuttgart….were just about ready to pop just a few days ago! I know this season passes so quickly, this budding into blossoms, and then into leaves….I wish I could slow it down! I’ve watched the trees in the parking lot here at the

Time is short!

My schedule is pretty tight here in Pigeon Forge, but I am having such an amazing time already! Yesterday dad and I drove over the mountains from Pigeon Forge over to Gatlinburg, and on through to Cherokee, NC where we had lunch at the casino buffet ((which is really good!)) Tea & Tell At Helga’s House!
Posted on 06:10 by Unknown
I’m packing up my room in Jackson TN….and had just a moment to unload some more pics off of my camera, and came across more pics! I found the ones the evening at Helga’s house! I looked through ALL the pictures and smiled as I once again saw the faces, and remembered the names of the ladies I spent the past week with! I also found these pics of me in front of Birgit’s Shop! Do you see the snow

Friendly Faces in Far Away Places!
Posted on 02:28 by Unknown
I’m tucked into my hotel room in Jackson, TN! It was a 9 hour drive to get here today…believe me, getting up at 5:30am was NOT easy! But leaving the house before 7am allowed me to get here by 3:30pm…and have a bit of time to unpack and relax before heading out tonight with a couple of gals from the Piece by Piece Quilter’s guild for dinner! It was a great day for a drive. A friend of mine said “

A Fitting Place, A Place of PIECE!
Posted on 12:00 by Unknown
My first trip to Germany will definitely not be my last! I’m already in talks to bring me back in perhaps 2014…a LONG way down the road I know, but it eventually comes around again and gets here. Time marches on, and we will fill it full! The Black Forest Quilters are such an active group! About 1/2 are American ladies whose hubbies serve in the US military or are there on contract. The other

Time for a bit of Creative Mojo!
Posted on 08:54 by Unknown
I forgot to include some details in this morning’s blog post! Actually, truth be told…I wasn’t sure if this show was live or pre-recorded, and until I got my email back from Taryn, I wasn’t sure! It’s LIVE! Oh boy! You know my schedule has been crazy, and we’ve been trying to work this out for the past couple weeks, and every OTHER day they wanted to fit me in I was off doing something somewhere
Good Morning, Jetlag….
Posted on 05:49 by Unknown
I am singing this to the old tune of “good morning, heartbreak!” I’ve got a version around here that Lori Morgan sang on a CD of oldies….but my heart is the complete opposite of heartbroken, it is completely full! I left Stuttgart bright and early….or make that dark and early! International airports can be an experience! Here they shuttle everyone OUT to the plane from the gate…way out on to the
