When ever I’m gone for more than just a few days, there is always a mountain of mail to go through. And getting home late Sunday afternoon, and knowing there was no mail delivery on Monday, I have to admit that I put the whole pile out of mind until Tuesday morning when I needed to get that mountain tackled, book orders sent out, all the other errands in a row… One thing I noticed right away was

Tuesday that feels like Monday!
Posted on 06:28 by Unknown
Did you have a good weekend? I hope that if you ARE in the US, and were able to use that three day weekend to your best advantage, that you are feeling recharged, energized, refreshed and ready to tackle the world! It’s a short work week! But if it feels short, how come we are scrambling to fit just as much stuff into it?! It was a total unwind day for me….even though I was busy here in the

Got my tired carcass----BACK HOME!
Posted on 08:08 by Unknown
I left Winchester in the wee-smalls yesterday morning. The GPS said it would take me about 8 hours to get from Diane’s door to my own, and knowing that I was going to also lose an hour as I crossed from central time into eastern time…I didn’t want to make this trip seem any longer than it really was! I also hoped to avoid as much Memorial Day travel traffic as I could….as it was, I stopped at a

Free Kindle Book, Blood of My Brother
Posted on 16:16 by Unknown
Hello There! I made it home from Winchester Tennessee….had my nap, unloaded the car, and set about to put all the digital stuff RIGHT in my world! And while sorting through what I sort through ((Oh is there EVER a lot to sort through!!)) I came upon THIS goodie! Review “Blood of my Brother is exciting, full of passion both of hate and love. It is a story that will captivate and keep you in your

It's a virus, y'all!!
Posted on 20:47 by Unknown
I'm not a happy camper!I was getting ready to do a blog post tonight and got this weird pop up on my computer that my antivirus didn't catch...something about my computer being at risk.I didn't click anything.....but it wouldn't let me run a scan or anything, so I know I've got a bug. Most of my regular programs are GONE...I can't access them and there are no icons on my desktop but miraculously
Friday In Winchester, TN!
Posted on 05:35 by Unknown
I did throw on my running shoes yesterday morning and headed out before anyone was up –I encountered a few people out walking their dogs also enjoying the gorgeous morning, and I also encountered some dogs out walking THEMSELVES! I walk with a full water bottle that has great squirt capacity for such reasons. That, and a good stern NO! ((Can you see me shaking my finger too in no uncertain

Two Crank-y Quilters!
Posted on 04:23 by Unknown
Yesterday started out very windy and rainy, a continuation of the night before……a perfect day to sit in and sew! Wednesday night had some horrendous storms blow through, starting around 1am and continuing through dawn……and on into Thursday morning --- but even if the power were to go out ((which it didn’t!)) It wasn’t about to stop our agenda for the day! I spent yesterday getting to know my new

Bouncing Back to Tennessee!
Posted on 06:55 by Unknown
I think I’ve finally reached the point where I really have to think “What Day Is It?!?” on this trip! As I sit here typing this post, I had to check the calendar in the lower right of my screen to double check. Oh yes! It’s Thursday! The only thing I had to do yesterday was pack up my room in Florence, Alabama….and make my way to Fayetteville, Tennessee, where I had arranged to meet Diane at “

When Quilters Gather….
Posted on 06:11 by Unknown
There is a dessert table!!! And not just a dessert table….but a great buffet lunch table too. Let’s just admit it. We love our food as much as we love our fabric…. And it is going to take many more walk/jogs to burn off what I consumed yesterday! There was NO shortage on CHOCOLATE, that is for sure! There were FOUR different kinds of brownies! And look at the chocolate cake with the white drizzle

Two Days in Athens ---
Posted on 06:32 by Unknown
Sunday morning I moved from Huntsville up the road to Athens, Alabama. This area was hit in places by the tornados that caused so much destruction just a few weeks ago. I’ve heard stories that made my heart skip a beat…but through it all I’ve heard stories of neighbors helping neighbors, of people pitching in to help each other, of bonding together and reestablishing what community is really

Huntsville, Continued!
Posted on 06:50 by Unknown
Saturday was full of strips, strings and spider-webby things!Sometimes it is really a kick to watch “really restrained” quilters dig deep and start going reckless with what fabrics they will put next to others. We had some who REALLY stretched their boundaries! And then there were those who never had any boundaries in the first place….and it was just fun to watch them play. I kept imagining them

Huntsville Alabama….
Posted on 05:56 by Unknown
My time in Huntsville is winding down! Today I am off to Athens Alabama for a Sister’s Choice workshop this afternoon! But checkout time isn’t until 11am, and I’ve got plans to get the borders on this baby quilt before packing up and leaving. I’m sure the maids will be glad to have my snippy thread mess GONE! Yesterday after our workshop, Lisa took me on a bit of a tour through some areas of

Bins, Boxes, Baskets, Bags, Buckets, Barrels….if it will hold fabric and or notions we will carry our stuff in it! We had such a great time with the Heritage Quilters of Huntsville yesterday….but what really was fun for me was to go table to table and look at the goodies that everyone brought. You know, we all have our favorites --- certain things that MUST accompany us to class, that make our

Tennessee Road Trip, Evening Edition!
Posted on 18:08 by Unknown
I love discovering new places! Many people suggested I try the aquarium in Chattanooga, and some other things, but the morning was SO beautiful, all I wanted to do was be outside. I wanted to move my body after sitting in the car all day the day before, and I knew I still had 3 hours to go on my journey to Huntsville, Alabama where I was meeting up with the Heritage Quilters --- So I got up on
Hotel Quilting!
Posted on 06:48 by Unknown
First off, I didn’t buy that red/cheddar quilt. It was $400, and I’d already spent my limit on the hand crank sewing machine! ((And I am over the moon for the hand crank, so I don’t feel like I missed out by NOT buying the quilt! See yesterday's post for pics of this new beauty in my collection! )) I did plan ahead for this trip. I’ve got some deadlines and projects were packed up with me….the

Chattanooga Bound!
Posted on 07:28 by Unknown
Morning came WAY too early yesterday. I was up at 6am because some things STILL needed to be packed for this 10 day adventure. There were clothes in the dryer that weren’t quite dry when I went to bed, you know how that goes? But I was on the road a little bit before 9am, praying the rain would mostly stay at bay – It’s just NOT as fun to take a road trip through the mountains in the hosing rain

AUUGHHH!! HACKED!!
Posted on 15:27 by Unknown
Well, I have joined the ranks of those who have been officially and unceremoniously HACKED! Sometime today around 12:03pm eastern, some hacker using some unknown program was able to access my gmail account. How do I know the time frame? By the time stamp on the mass emails that bounced back due to “permanent failure” when the message didn’t arrive at places due to that email address not being
The Two that Won The War ((Generals!))

I’ve got two envelopes ready for addresses! WOW! I was really amazed at the response for the Civil War General panels! This was really fun! And funny too, since Bingo-Bonnie left the following comment on my facebook: “Just read your last post and thought at the end you said to be sure and enter a chance to win some C.W. "Pantie"s hahaha” Remind me next time to NOT be sipping tea when I read

Mahhhhhvelous Monday!

I mentioned in yesterday morning’s post that Lisa and I were headed out to Pilot Mountain! And head out we did! I haven’t hiked Pilot Mountain in a couple of years, and I was itching to go! It’s nice to find girlfriends who will get me OUT of the basement and go do something healthy – like moving my body – and something soul enhancing – like going up a mountain side and enjoying the beauty and

Clean & De-Clutter Giveaway!
Posted on 17:48 by Unknown
**NOTE** This Giveaway has Ended!!This afternoon, after Lisa dropped me back at my car—I ran errands like a crazy woman! But what’s a girl to do when she is parked in front of Sam’s club? And Lowes and Home Depot and Target and the bank and Walmart are in close proximity? I don’t often go to that side of town – so it was like discovering a whole new place! What was I searching for? Plastic
Organized Chaos!
Posted on 05:16 by Unknown
I think the funniest thing I ever learned on Flylady was just what CHAOS stood for – Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome! And basically, that is how I have felt about my basement space through the winter. I could start to get a handle on it, but there wasn’t a lot of time before I was flying off on another trip, and other projects had deadlines, so a lot of things I wanted to tackle just kept

How Much Fabric?!?
Posted on 08:33 by Unknown
HA! I was happy to be corrected this morning on just WHAT day of the week it is! I don’t know why, but when I woke up this morning, I had on my mind that it was MONDAY…not Sunday! This is awesome! This means I have a whole extra day to do “stuff” before heading out to Alabama early Thursday morning! It’s an 8 hour drive – so with lunch and gas and everything else, I’m giving myself 9 hours and

Tyler Texas–The Food Addition!
Posted on 15:44 by Unknown
This is a late afternoon post of what was supposed to go live this morning, but Blogger was being persnickety…..Better late than never right? And I sure hope they have fixed whatever it was that was broken in the first place! When it’s a lecture day, there usually isn’t much of a photo-opportunity! But we had a great crowd at the Quilters of East Texas guild meeting yesterday! I was a bit

Under Pressure!
Posted on 06:05 by Unknown
I woke up with a Queen song in my head today…Under Pressure! Not a bad kind of pressure really, just a lot to do and not so much time to do it in! You know how it goes --- I’m leaving for Texas this afternoon, but playing on my mind is my need to make a baby quilt for DH’s assistant controller and his wife who are expecting their first baby any week now. On Sunday DH was telling me how he TOLD

I fly tomorrow, Have two lectures on Thursday, and a workshop on Friday, and I’m home again Saturday. How is that for a quick whirlwind trip? It was one of “THOSE” nights. One of those where I was tucked into bed by about 10:30pm or so, thumbing through quilt magazines, drooling over antique quilts, fabrics, colors, textures, stitches…..and off to dreamland I went-- Only to be rudely awakened by NOTHING AT ALL----No reason, whatsoever ----at 3:45am. Toss, Turn, Toss, Turn, ((If you get up, it’s all over, you know it, don’t you?)) Toss,

Home for the Weekend!

You know, it doesn’t happen very often that I’m not teaching somewhere on a Saturday, or using a Sunday as my travel day to/from somewhere. I decided a couple years ago that I was going to try to schedule the week around Mother’s Day off as a treat for myself…and it has been great to be home this week! The one hard part about the scheduling is, fitting in all the stuff I want to do in the amount

Christ Church, Philadelphia ((And Betsy Ross too!))
Posted on 05:29 by Unknown
I was born in Minnesota and raised in San Jose California. My boys were both born in Oregon, in towns that had their beginnings in the mid to late 1800s. To refer to something as “OLD” there has a completely different meaning than what it is to refer to something “OLD” on the East Coast! I learned that when we moved to South Carolina and visited Charleston for the first time. The dates didn’t

Feelin’ Down & Out?! Who, ME?!
Posted on 08:10 by Unknown
I seem to have hit a brick wall here at home…by yesterday morning when I woke up, there was a distinct tickle running down the back of my throat…. A quick couple of hours to get caught up on book orders and paperwork, and off I went to the Post Office, followed by a trip to CVS for some airborne and some cold-eeze and a stop at the hole-in-the-wall Chinese place for my cure-all of EVERYTHING~~A

I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for my turn to post! IT’S TIME! This is my second issue as a designer for Quiltmaker’s 100 blocks by 100 designers magazine. I missed the first one. I had too many irons in the fire, and who knew what a big thing it was going to turn out to be! I loved the excitement that built last time, so there was no way I was going to miss this issue, or the next, or

If I could give ONE piece of advice to anyone who’s life is so busy they feel like they can’t breathe side-ways – If you’ve ever put OFF doing things you’ve always wanted to do, because a better time will come up later, or there will “always” be a next time – it would be to DO IT NOW! Keep your schedule a bit flexible, and JUST DO IT! I was going to head home from Glenside, PA on Sunday afternoon

Crumbiness in Glenside!
Posted on 07:10 by Unknown
What a pleasure it’s been to spend a couple of days “near Philadelphia” with Nancy, her hubby Joe, and also to feel the love of her fur coated family members! Nancy’s church ((let’s see if I can get this right, and it will probably be wrong!)) is sponsoring a mission trip to go help those in need in New Orleans. Yes – there is still great need there! And she thought that funds raised during a
