There are just certain things that quilters HAVE to do when they reach the Mecca of Near-Lancaster-County, Pennsylvania! We have our “Routes” and our “Routines” and we map them out to a T to make the best use of our time, not leaving out any possibilities for BARGAINS! Yes, folks, yesterday was my Fabric Acquisition Road Trip! Although I threw myself behind a little bit…one must always be open

Pennsylvania Road Trip!
Posted on 06:16 by Unknown
I left for Pennsylvania on the wee small hours of Wednesday morning --- Up at 5am, out the door by 5:30 am! More and more I’m liking getting an earlier start. I have always been a morning person, and when you have a 9 hour drive ahead of you, it doesn’t feel so bad to get there by 3pm instead of 6 pm. I know that it is the SAME amount of hours, but believe me…you feel like you just have so much

Backings, Backings, Backings!
Posted on 04:37 by Unknown
Dig dig dig! Pull fabric off the shelves, audition, discard for one reason or the other, and dig dig dig some more! This is the usual process of picking borders, binding, sashing, setting triangles, and BACKING fabrics for any quilt that comes my way. You should see the DISCARD pile! ((And yes, much to my dismay, I have much to refold it all and put it away all over again~~)) Well, Let’s see what

Home Renovations!
Posted on 04:36 by Unknown
Sometimes it isn’t something you WANT to do…..sometimes you just HAVE to do it. Off of our dining room, is a little bonus room that was added as an extra family area in the somewhat distant past. When we were moving in, there were problems during the inspection with the leaky areas around the sky lights. Money was spent to correct these-supposedly- but after our warranty ran out and these were

When All Else Fails….

Take A Hike!! Yesterday afternoon, though we probably decided to do this too much into the middle of the day, forgetting that it was 80 something out there, DH an I took a 7.12 mile hike around Salem Lake! The green balloon you see is the starting/ending point, the numbers in circles are mile markers...how accurate they are, I'm not sure! But I did use the GPS and "map my fitness" on my iphone,

Easter Thoughts---
Posted on 06:52 by Unknown
Wherever you are, be it near or far from family, I am wishing you a restful, pieceful ((and peaceful too!)) day! There isn’t a lot of activity over here at Quiltville, but that is fine with me. I’m enjoying the end of my “week home” before I head off to the wilds of Pennsylvania on Wednesday. This week I’ve cleaned, I’ve puttered. I’ve read, I’ve sewn. I’ve sat on the porch swing. I’ve walked the

Four Patch Fever!
Posted on 06:06 by Unknown
Sometimes the simplest things are the best. Simple shapes, simple designs, and MEGA repeat of pattern. I love a quilt where the design repeats and repeats and repeats and gives SO much to look at! This little basket is just chock-full-o-four-patches just waiting for future projects. I just can’t stop making them as leaders & enders even when I don’t know where they will be used. Oh the

Lazy Friday!
Posted on 11:51 by Unknown
Well, it’s a Good Friday kind of Friday! Spring rains, kinda chilly --- a definite tuck-in day for sure! I had one of those rough nights last night. You know the kind, where you toss and turn and try and try to fall asleep, but 2 hours later you are still NOT there? I did my least favorite last-resort-only kind of thing when I looked at the clock and it was 12:30am. I took some tylenol pm to help

Antique ((Mall)) Roadshow!!
Posted on 06:02 by Unknown
Do you watch Antique Roadshow? I’ll catch it now and again, and sometimes I am quite amused by the things that people think are worth a lot, but turn out to really be junk! Mostly because I know that the “value” we put on things ourselves has more to do with our attachment to the object, and the memories it has, than what the actual “monitary value” can give. If one persons trash is another

Quilters With Heart!
Posted on 05:26 by Unknown
This morning I woke up to an email from Julia, the subject line stating “Scrappy Nut Here!!” I wasn’t sure if she was referring to me or herself, but just the title made me smile and I quickly sat down with my tea to read what she had so sweetly taken the time to write: I just was forwarded your wonderful link and have enjoyed reading it so much! One thing I have realized also - and I have

It’s like this..do I wait til tomorrow to post this, because I’ve already written a post today? What if it isn’t free TOMORROW? But is today? So I’ll post this now! Beyond The Bougainvillea ((Yeah, I really had to watch closely to spell this one right!)) is free on Kindle, and maybe some other formats too. Book DescriptionShe found her place in a turbulent era of deep passions, heartbreaking
Think Pink!
Posted on 06:44 by Unknown
While on my road trip, I got a voice mail reminding me that I had a mammogram yesterday at 4pm! I guess there was no better way to celebrate my return home, than by heading straight to the imaging center and taking care of “the girls!” This cartoon cracked me up….and I know all of us of “a certain age” can relate! It doesn’t take long, it’s only a “BIT” uncomfortable, and you know that everyone

Still Homeward Bound! ((Free Kindle Book Too!))
Posted on 04:58 by Unknown
I have to admit I putzed a bit on my way home! You know the pull of antique malls and historic sites! Not to mention that the road was tiring in and of itself --- it seemed like everyone is headed somewhere for Easter week! The truck stops were full, so were the gas stations along the way! Oh, this state’s gas is 5 cents lower than that one, so we must stop here behind 40 other cars to SAVE a few

Homeward Bound!!
Posted on 05:22 by Unknown
This is a quickie post. Mostly because I am exhausted tired – and don’t have the energy to edit down all the class pictures from yesterday’s Scrappy Mountain Majesties workshop ((No, NO ONE made them in 3” size!!)) and I want to get my stuff packed, the car loaded, so I’m ready to hit the road home extra early. This is my route home..how far I get in one day depends on the weather and how I feel!

Over The Bridge To Kingston!!
Posted on 05:01 by Unknown
Yesterday morning bright and early, I loaded up my car, and headed out in Poughkeepsie morning rush hour, Over the Mid-Hudson Bridge to meet with the Wiltwyck Quilters of Kingston, NY! I love bridges. My fascination with them goes back to my childhood, living in the San Francisco Bay area from the time I was about 7 to 19---when I headed off to Idaho, not knowing how that one move would so

Playing in Poughkeepsie!
Posted on 05:43 by Unknown
I arrived in Poughkeepsie, NY Wednesday afternoon! It wasn’t that far of a drive from Trumbull, CT—and I enjoyed the scenery immensely! I did arrive to my hotel a bit too early for housekeeping to have my room ready, so a quick check on TomTom directed me to the nearest shopping mall. I figured I could get some lunch and walk the mall to stretch my legs. In other words ----WELCOME to AMERICA--

It’s Arriving!
Posted on 04:20 by Unknown
At my Wallingford CT Workshop a few days ago, Tracey brought in her “Hot out of the mail box” issue of Quiltmaker Magazine! It’s as surprising to me as it is to you which block turns out in which issue of Quiltmaker…I sew enough blocks for a full year at one time, and send in the batch, and it is up to the design girls there to decide which block goes in which issue! When I saw this one in the

Scrappy Mountains in Trumbull!
Posted on 05:42 by Unknown
Yesterday was the Scrappy Mountain Majesties workshop in Trumbull! I was really glad they chose this for a workshop---When trying to get stash and scraps under control, it is sometimes daunting to a new scrapper to tell them to bring a large variety of fabrics cut into 2” strips, or 2.5” squares and 2.5” X 4.5” bricks…if you haven’t already started your own Scrap User’s System….it can be a HUGE

Tea, For Me!!
Posted on 07:21 by Unknown
I am a tea drinker. And I have my favorites! I am always on the look out for new things though-- Just recently I came across Yogi Egyptian Licorice tea. I love the flavor of black licorice, and I know as an herb, it is touted to do a number of things: “Licorice is useful for many ailments including asthma, athlete's foot, baldness, body odor, bursitis, canker sores, chronic fatigue, depression,

Playing With Jacks Day!
Posted on 07:22 by Unknown
Yesterday was the Playing With Jacks workshop with the Heritage Quilters in Wallingford, CT! What a fun way to explore color, value, layout, variations, everything! Where there are lots of designs that make it hard to know if a Jelly Roll or Bali Pop will work due to the unknown nature of what strips are contained depending on fabric line, amount of lights/darks, variety, etc…This class is a

Whadda Day!!
Posted on 05:11 by Unknown
I got back to the room so late last night that I couldn’t even bother to turn the computer on! I’ve got 1/2 hour before being picked up for today’s Playing With Jacks workshop, so I need to get this down quickly! Just let it be said that Quilters know how to fill a day to overflowing with fun, fabric, and fantastic company! Yesterday’s Star Struck workshop was full, and we had a great time! And

A Day in Richmond ---
Posted on 04:39 by Unknown
I spent the first leg of my drive spending time in Richmond! Wednesday was such a beautiful day for a drive, and there were places that I’ve always wanted to explore. When I travel by car, I try to add a bit of extra time in the itinerary to make room for beautiful “must wander” days like this! I knew I was going to try to make it a bit past DC the first night, splitting my drive to CT in half--

Bonus Mail Day!!

*disclaimer* This post is written a couple days ahead to post while I am on the road to Connecticut! I just couldn’t let these lovelies go unmentioned until I got home in 2 weeks Dear Postman-- Today I met you at the top of my driveway! I was going out, you were coming in…. There you were, two big boxes in hand……BOTH FOR ME!! How fortuitous! Of course, I couldn’t imagine what was in these big

And One For The Road!
Posted on 05:41 by Unknown
I swear, I can’t resist these! As I was downloading yesterday’s free book to my kindle, the little ad thing at the bottom showed me “other titles I might like” And this one came up as free as well! I know I’ve posted a lot of foo foo light stuff lately, but occasionally I do like to get into more intrigue and who-done-it kind of books! DH has taken to reading books on his iphone, and I thought

Over At Moda-Lissa….
Posted on 07:17 by Unknown
I just love keeping up with what my friends are doing out in Blogland…so much inspiration, so much GOODNESS for a cause, so much living and loving! I had a great time meeting Lissa when I was in Texas in February ((Was that only 6 weeks ago?! It seems like forever already!!)) The funny part is, the first time we met face to face it was like looking in a mirror! First off, we are about the same

Someone Pinch Me!!
Posted on 05:10 by Unknown
I came home last night after running some evening errands to find a message that I had been voted in as the Golden Quilter Awards “Teacher Of The Year” ((!!!!!)) At first I thought it was an April Fools joke….Hahahahhaa, wouldn’t that be a funny fast one to pull on me! I had to go searching! And then, wonder of wonders, there was this email from Sew Cal Gal herself! I wanted to let you know

Free Kindle Book–Paper Roses!
Posted on 06:49 by Unknown
Doesn’t this bring to mind the song that Marie Osmond sang way back when? Oh, I loved that song, and I so wanted to be like her, I would practice and practice and practice!! ((Yes, this goes right along with my desire to replace Tracy Partridge on the Partridge Family show too!)) Sometimes when I’m looking at the free books the ones I find are not the first in a series, and then you worry about
